These two members of the Dutch military were photographed outdoors somewhere in the Dutch East Indies around the turn of the 20th Century. The man standing in front of the veranda is armed with a sorterized single shot Dutch Beaumont M1871 bolt action rifle. Both men may have been Dutch naval personnel. Some small details in the photograph are interesting: the old food tins being reused as planters on the veranda's railing and the bottle of wine and glasses set on a table on the veranda.
