George Stuart White , VC graces the cover of Ezra Read's The Ladysmith March. Undoubtably produced to commemorate White's successful defense of Ladysmith during the Boer siege of the town.

Long associated with the Gordon Highlanders, White, who would rise to field marshal, won the Victoria Cross at Charasia during the 2nd Anglo-Afghan War in 1879.
