Lt Col Staffordshire VR.png

Cabinet Photograph
Harrison - Photographer
Newcastle-under-Lyne, Staffordshire, England
c. 1880's

Based on the crown and star rank badges on his collar, this officer of volunteers appears to hold the rank of lieutenant colonel. The rank badges location on his collars would seem to
date the photograph before 1880. His uniform - apparently gray with black facings and braiding - is that of a volunteer rifle unit. Based on the photographic studio's location of
Newcastle-under-Lyne in Staffordshire this officer was probably a member of the Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers' headquarters or administrative battalion.
