A young lieutenant of the Coldstream Guards outfitted for foreign service probably along the Nile or around Suakin c. 1885 during Wolseley's attempt to relieve Gordon in Khartoum. His heavy mounted pattern gauntlets lend the possibility that he was attached to the Guards Camel Regiment that saw much action during the campaign including at Abu Klea.
Unfortunately, this young officer was not identified in the photograph.
