With a red wig, fake eyebrows, and mustache American actor Brian Keith (1921-1997) does his best to portray a dour Scottish Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Bowen in the 1966 production of The Rare Breed.

A typical mid-1960s Western vehicle for James Stewart who had the staring role, The Rare Breed also starred Maureen O'Hara and was directed by Andrew V. McLaglen (the son of actor Victor McLaglen). Keith's character was a retired Scottish officer who had moved to Texas to take up ranching. From the shoulder belt plate on Keith's costume and the time period of the film it appears that Lt. Col. Bowen had previously been a member of the 91st (Princess Louise's Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot.

During World War II Sergeant Brain Keith served with the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a gunner/radio operator on Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Air Medal for his wartime service.
