Asienkorps.png

An outstanding real photo postcard portrait of a private of the German Pascha II Expedition which is sometimes referred to as the Asienkorps. About 10,000 strong the corps was raised in 1917 from various German army units to assist the Ottoman Turks against the British in Palestine. T. E. Lawrence wrote with great admiration of the fighting qualities of the Asienkorps in his book The Seven Pillars of Wisdom.

It appears he is wearing the early khaki Asienkorps uniform which was later replaced by a field gray version. He wears a Bortfeldt tropenheln tropical helmet with a khaki neck curtain. His hobnailed boots are of particular interest.
