Charles Van Buskirk - Photographer
Bowdle, Dakota Territory, United States
Taken c.1888 at Bowdle, Dakota Territory (now South Dakota) the cabinet photograph depicts a group of men seemingly employed by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Railroad. The
man seated at left wears a conductor's hat with "C M & St P RR" clearly marked on it. The C M & St P RR pushed through Dakota Territory by 1887 and Dakota Territory became
the states of North and South Dakota in 1889 hence the 1888 date applied t the photograph. The man standing at left with sleeve protectors may have been a station clerk or telegraph
operator. The man seated at right has a small oil bottle on his knee.
