One of those seeming out of place images, this cabinet photograph depicts an unidentified private of the Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment. It seems out of place due to the
location of the photographer's studio - New York City. When closely examined it becomes clear that this image was copied from an earlier image by New York photographer L. H.
Merry - wrinkles and a small tear in the original were replicated during the copying process. In all likelihood the image was duplicated by the man himself after leaving service and
immigrating to the U.S. or by one of his family members living in New York.
