This forlorn looking man for all appearances looks to be a P.O.W. in British custody. He is wearing a distinctly military-looking uniform that is covered with British broad arrow marking which denote crown property. His hands are tightly and possibly painfully bound with shackles. The number which appears on his shirt could be a serial number or possibly a date. He looks to be of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean extraction. There is no information on the card mount other that a very faded title on the lower left hand corner which is unreadable even after digital enhancement. There is the possibility that this man could be a prisoner of the civil authorities. Cabinet Photograph Unknown Photographer Unknown Location c. 1890's |
