Many units in the Yeomanry had secondary designations such as Hussars, Dragoons and Lancers.
Although this member of the Sussex Yeomanry wears a lancer style tunic I can find no reference to the Sussex
Yeomanry ever being styled as "lancers". The image dates to before 1908 since the units collar badge acquired a
small scroll at its bottom after that date. The unit served int he Anglo-Boer War as the 64th Company of Imperial
Yeomanry in the 7th and 14th Battalions. This man may have served in the war and had yet to receive his medal(s)
or he may have joined afterward. It is also possible that the photograph was taken prior to his departure to South
