Carte de visite of an unidentified band corporal of the 50th (the Queen's Own) Regiment of Foot, c.
1880. He wears the bandsman's version of the 1877-81 pattern tunic with its
characteristic shoulder wings. His pillbox styled forage cap rests on the padded studio chair next to him.

The 50th had last seen active service in New Zealand during the Maori War of 1863 (long before this man would have joined the colours). He may well have seen active service in 1882
in Egypt by which time the 50th Foot had been designated the 1st Battalion, the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment).
