This unmarked carte de visite depicts a reclining British soldier with members of his family Based on the apparent ages of the subjects the standing gentleman in the top hat is
probably the soldier's brother with the brother's wife seated in front of him. The soldier's wife and young daughter are seated directly behind him. The soldier appears to have been a
member of one of the mounted services.

The carte's thin and unadorned mount along with the style of clothing seen would seem to date the image from the late 1860s to the very early 1870s.
