Nye & Co. - Photographer
116 Walworth Rd.
London S.E., England
This cabinet photograph is a good example of content superseding condition. I've nicknamed the photo The Sergeant Majors since it depicts three seated privates of the Army Service Corps with their individual sergeant
major (their wives) standing behind with one hand resting firmly on the shoulder of each respective soldier.
Dating from around the time of the Anglo-Boer War (photographer Thomas John Nye worked out of his Walworth Road studio between 1895 and 1906), the photograph may actually depict three brothers who had
married three sisters. The soldier at center wears one good conduct stripe on his left cuff.
