|This bewiskered Sergeant Instructor of Musketry wears the New Zealand medal for service in the later Anglo-Maori War in New Zealand. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, the
18th (Royal Irish) Regiment Foot. There were several campaigns (often referred to as individual war) during the 1860s in which that man may have taken place. Perhaps he took part
in the Second Taranaki War (1863-1866) during which a member of his battalion - Captain Hugh Shaw - won the Victoria Cross. His battalion was the last Imperial battalion to leave
New Zealand after the end of hostilities.
