While this officer is unidentified his rank of second lieutenant is confirmed by the single garter star on each of his shoulder straps. Additionally his membership in a light infantry
battalion seems to be indicated by the stringed bugle badge also worn on his shoulder straps. Other interesting details in the photograph include the leather bound journal or notebook
in his breast pocket which appears to be closed with leather strap and buckle. Another item - a small packet? - can also be seen in the same pocket.
