The London Church Lads were (and still are) one of several church youth organization that were modeled along military lines. The Church Lads, like the Boys Brigade pre-dated the Boy Scouts founded by Baden-Powell. This photograph depicts three non-commissioned officers of the Lads. If these ranks followed those of the Army to any close degree then the seat youth at left would seem to hold a rank of Quartermaster. The young man standing left appears to be a Armourer-Sergeant and next to him with three medals is possibly a Sergeant-Major. All three young men wear and assortment of medals no two of which appear to be the same.
