19th Century images of children dressed in sailor costumes are so ubiquitous that they virtually occupy their own genre and are not usually included in the Sons of the Regiment section
of this website. This example has been included simply because it is so wonderfully realized in a most theatrical of ways. The shipboard setting is superb and the young subject appears
to have been a most willing accomplice in the photographic effort. Weston-Super-Mare was (and still is) a seaside resort town in Somerset and this photograph was probably a souvenir
of the lad's summertime family outing to the coast.
