Carte de Visite
John W. Poole - Photographer
18 Exchange Street, Colne, Lancashire, England
c. 1900s

What sets this image apart is the rather ghostly if not actually creepy male visage looking out from the window behind the apparently unsuspecting soldier. A somewhat cryptic note on
the carte’s reverse side seems to allude to the event:
“I have sneaked this out of our David’s drawer. Sis.”

Why Sis had to sneak the carrte is hard to say. Regardless, the photo certainly falls into the strange and unusual category quite well.

The soldier's collar badges could be those of the 18th Hussars.
