Based on the rather lengthy caption on its base, this cabinet photograph was produced as part of a series depicting costumes used at the 1886 Bayreuth Festival. This specific example (No. 28) showcases a costume worn in the festivals production of Wagner's Tristan and Isolde. A period ink inscription appears to show that name Bürgin although I have no idea if this names the pictured actor or not. I have not been able to find an actor by that name listed as a cast member in the 1886 production of Tristan and Isolde.
