Outfitted for service in the field this late-Victorian artilleryman is armed with a Martini-Henry Mark I or possibly Mark II
artillery carbine. He also sports a artillery sword bayonet which is as long as the carbine itself. The exact branch of the artillery
service is difficult to deduce in this otherwise outstanding and instructive image.
