Although purchased in Australia, there is no doubt that this photograph depicts a British Volunteer Riflesman/Cyclist since Australia did not have military cyclists at the time this photograph was taken. It was not until the time of the Great War that Australia began to send her men into battle on these two-wheeled, steel steeds. The outdoor setting and unmarked card mount would seem to make this photograph the product of a traveling or itinerant photographer. Cabinet Photograph Unknown Photographer Great Britain c. 1900 |
