|A fine pair of cabinet photographs depicting an unnamed member of St. John's Ambulance Brigade. His forage cap
seems to indicate officer or senior noncommissioned status in the brigade, He wears a single medal which looks like the
Queen Victoria Police Jubilee Medal 910 of which were presented to members of the brigade in 1897.
Although technically a civilian organization, some 1,800 brigade members would volunteer for service in South Africa
during the Anglo-Boer War. Qualifying brigade members were entitled to the Queen's South Africa Medal with
appropriate clasps as well as the brigade's own medal for South African Service.
