This Signaler/Cyclist was a member of the artillery section (probably the 1st Glamorganshire Artillery Volunteers) of the Swansea Volunteer Force. This volunteer establishment seems to have been a joint service with rifle, artillery and possibly other units combined into a "Force" in much the same way as Field Forces were used by the regular army in overseas operations. This signaler's bicycle has clearly seen much use and looks rather battered. This view also offers a very clear looks at the unique foot/leg wear worn by military cyclists of the period.
