Carte de Visite Unknown Photographer Great Britain c. 1880s This c. 1880s carte de visite capture the smiling (surprising for the era) likeness of a guardsman of the Scots Guards. Completely unmarked, the carte may have been made for commercial sale - a souvenir of sort - as opposed to a personal photograph of the depicted soldier. The guardsman is fully outfitted for home service He is armed with a Martini-Henry rifle with fixed "lunger" bayonet. His equipment is of the 1882 Valise pattern. His "Oliver" pattern water bottle is just visible under the crook of his right arm. |
