Carte de Visite James Mudd & Son - Photographers 10 St. Anne's Square, Manchester England 1870s Based on their apparent young age and the single crown rank badges on the standing officer's collar, the carte de visite captures the likenesses of four lieutenants of an unidentified regiment of foot. The 1868 pattern helmet plates on the two standing officer's 1869 pattern shakos are to indistinct to make out the regimental number on them. The shakos would be replaced by the home service pattern blue helmet in 1878. Both of these men wear scarlet 1868 pattern tunics with crimson silk sashes. The two seated officers wear the more relaxed fitting dark blue patrol jackets. Regulations stipulated that the men's swords be of the 1822 infantry officer's pattern with 1845 modifications. |
