A staff sergeant of the Army Service Corps (ACS) in a well realized portrait taken around the time of the 2nd Anglo-Afghan War and the Anglo-Zulu War. His blue home service
helmet bears the 1869-1881 shako plate which carried the corps initials in a row instead of the intertwined cypher as seen on post 1881 helmet badges. Texts consulted seem to
indicate that the ACS wore overall blue uniforms although the tonal qualities of this image gives me the impression that this sergeant's tunic was red. His brown belt with its snake
type clasp match text descriptions. He carries a Gothic-hilted NCOs sword.
