Another St. John's Ambulance Man by John Hart. This one differs from the previous two only in the painted backdrop that was selected for the background. The same prop table and chair are used and this ambulance man - named on the reverse as Tom Rowen who stands in a pose very similar to the two previous men. In South Africa Tom H. Rowan was attached as a private to No. 6 General Hospital in Johannesburg. He was entitled to the "Cape Colony", "Orange Free State" and "Transvaal" clasps to his Queen's South Africa Medal. He would also have been presented with the St John Ambulance Brigade Medal for South Africa. Given the number of photographs taken of St. Johns personnel by John Hart one wonders if he was something akin to an official photographer to the St. John's Ambulance Brigade. It is a small un-researched detail but I suspect that his studio must have stood close by the Ambulance Brigade's headquarters building.
