While it is tempting to refer to this solider as a United States Military Cyclist in all likelihood he is a member of a
National Guard unit posing with his personal two wheeled mount. His belt plate appears to bear the initials of "NJ" or
possibly "NY" which could make him a member of either New York or New Jersey state unit. I have no information
showing either state ever fielding cyclist units (though I have no information that these state units did not) and the
United States Army only fielded one small experimental cyclist unit which was made of African American members of
the 25th Infantry Regiment in 1897.
