W
ith a uniform more evocative of a European dragoon than an American cavalry unit, this soldier was a member of the First Troop, Philadelphia City Cavalry - the longest continually
serving unit associated with the United States Army. Founded in 1774 as the Light Horse of the City of Philadelphia. Attached to the Pennsylvania National Guard, the unit or it
members has seen action in almost every conflict since the American Revolution, most recently in 2013-14 in Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit also perform
civic ceremonial duties in Philadelphia. The unit's full dress today uniform is virtually unchanged from that worn by this unnamed trooper.  Today the unit still performs mounted training
with both saber and lance.
