This member of an unknown Italian Bersaglieri regiment wears the feathered plume that marked these Italian
troops. His barrel shaped water bottle should be noted since this pattern was adopted by the British during the
1870's were it was known both as the "Oliver Pattern" or  "Italian Pattern" water bottle. Behind this soldier's
spatted feet can be seen the cast iron base of the head brace that was used to steady him during the long exposure
time required at this time.
