The medal roll for the 1877-79 South Africa Medal shows a Private Maurice Jones, Cape Mounted Rifles being entitled to
that medal with the "1877-8" for the campaign against the Gaikas and Galekas. He married Barbara Eddie Allan in South
on 30 September 1882. One child was born in South Africa prior to the family emigrating to Australia where four additional
children - including William Allan Jones - were born. Maurice Early Jones died at the age of 90.

Centre, Jones was a 24 year old stockman from
Rockhampton, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 January 1915.
